An onchain culture brand with a mission to build art, story and community projects on base, Coinbase’s low cost consumer focused blockchain.

Base is an blockchain network launched by Coinbase with the mission to build a global onchain economy that increases innovation, creativity, and freedom and brings the next billion people onchain.

We wanted to be part of this story.

Our mission was to create an onchain brand that would bring together the growing base community, around a common goal, to create onchain projects with art, culture and storytelling.

We are a year into the experiment and have launched multiple projects involving thousands of artists, developers, culturalists, storytellers, curators and collectors.

In this time base has become the defacto blockchain for onboarding millions of global citizens to onchain culture with over $3.5 billion committed to the network.

SO BASED is proud to be part of this journey to help build a new, equitable onchain economy.

The base brand

The base brand was designed to be accessible to everyone, to use it, remix it and make money from it. An open brand for the onchain community to use, without permission, to build on.

We connected with Jesse Pollack, Founder of base at FWB Fest to film an interview and discover the origins and mission of the base brand.

RESEARCH & DESIGN

WTF?

Summer 2023 and the base community was beginning to grow rapidly with a focus on social, gaming, art and cultural applications .

Our first step was to immerse ourselves in the ecosystem and discover a vision for SO BASED.

We created an interactive Suggestion Box NFT. Purchasing the NFT allowed collectors leave comments and feedback for that helped us understand what the base community wanted

We also launched a meme competition and released multiple NFT collections that helped explore the collective story of the evolving base community.

ONCHAIN COMMUNITY

BASED ASSOCIATES

Our next step was to launch a small onchain community of artists, developers and onchain culturalists with a focus on building projects around art, culture and story.

We received grants and funding from other base communities and through paid membership NFTs.

Members had governance over the treasury and the opportunity to make proposals for funding projects.

MoBA

For the first season, The DAO established MoBA - The Museum of Based ARTFKTS, an onchain archive of over 1100 pieces of art, media, memetics, music, publishing, video and cultural artefacts released on base during the first year.
